The Staffordshire town where I live does not have a large homeless population, but one man always catches my eye as I rush somewhere terribly important. He sits, chatting to shoppers who stop to say hello and give him a bit of money, surrounded by his belongings - the most important of which is clearly his large white dog.
It always touches me to see how devoted they are to each other. As a besotted dog-owner myself, I can well imagine how important that dog is to his owner’s morale.
